Morning after morning, I wake myself up. I don’t have the normal mother or father to tell me to have a good day or make me breakfast. Sure I’m a senior in high school, but I’ve never had that. Even in elementary I took care of myself. My dad was dealing heavy drugs at the time and when he wasn’t dealing he was high or sleeping. Mom had tried several times to stay drug free but wasn’t successful with it. My dad wanted her just like him, destroyed. I have never really known what it was like to have parents
that care. They didn’t understand why I hated the life we lived. More times than not they voiced their frustration that I thought I was better than them.
I listened to people talk about how their parents were annoying and watched them like hawks. They had to lie to do things they wanted to do when caring parents would try to provide them a net, so they wouldn’t get hurt, something that was only a dream for me. I yearned for that and knew I was never going to get it. I saw things I shouldn’t have seen but all it did was make me want to strive even more to make it, to get away from it. I was going to make it, and I was going to be nothing like my parents.
My evenings were pretty identical to my mornings. I did my homework, drummed with the band and then made myself something to eat. Mom worked at a hotel in housekeeping and when she was home she was either sleeping or sitting in her room in silence. I don’t know if she knew if I was dead or alive half the time nor would she have cared. Well that’s not true. If I was dead Aunt Ellen wouldn’t be paying our bills.
This is my senior year and all of my friends were going to be hanging out, partying, and having a good time, while I was just going to be living my life. It was a vicious cycle, and I was willing to do it because I knew I would survive it all. I was going to go to college and do the one thing that would piss my parents off the most and I would have full satisfaction in doing just that. If so, is there anything about Shane that you relate to? If not, whats stopping you? I have dyslexia so spending my time reading my school textbooks is all the reading I can take.
How many Tattoos do you have? Any meanings behind them? I have 5 tattoos. All of them have meaning. My first was my 21st bday gift to myself. It is a sun with 3 moons. 3 is my favorite number. My tree is by my favorite artist mc Escher. My lion is colored blue so the tattoo stands for strength, honesty and loyalty (all attributes I hope others see in me). My 4-5 are birds in relief on my back that I drew myself.
Three things about yourself that most people don’t know? 1. I have written 2 books of poetry when I was younger and tried to get them published when I was a teen. 2. My favorite poet is Edgar Allen Poe. 3. I believe the most valuable thing someone can give me, or I them, is time.
What inspired you to write the Indelibly Marked Series? I loved the idea of the bad boy with a heart of gold. I wanted someone who was off the beaten track and totally and completely Los Angeles. Shane was born because I love that look and that image.
Who is your favorite character to write? Oh geez, thats like asking to choose a favorite child. I have to say that while Shane will always hold a special place in my heart, the title of my favorite person to write has to go to his best friend, Ivan. He is so damaged and so worried and just wants to do the right thing. He’s so afraid of anything upsetting his little universe and I just could really identify with him.
What is your attraction to Tattooed men? It seems like men with tattoos are very deep, so deep that they need to put on their skin what maybe they can’t say in words.
What kind of research did you do for the series? I visited a lot of shops in Hollywood, I interviewed tattoo artists from around the country, and I did an extensive interview with Dirk Vermin (Bad Ink). For some of the plot points in the second book I did consult with two dermatologists.
Are there going to be more books in this series? There will be two more to round off the series. Carson, the quiet brother, and we will end with Dillon.

September—Chicago.
A plane fell from the sky.

The symphony of honking horns that filled the Chicago streets died abruptly, right in time with the falling plane. For a single moment, the lunchtime crowds on North Wacker Drive completely stilled.
A beat of silence.

Justin’s mouth came crashing down on mine making my ramble crumble and die on my lips. I hadn’t been kissed in a really, really long time so it might have taken me a minute to realize that I was actually being kissed. No, not kissed, consumed. He applied just the smallest amount of pressure causing me to open like a flower and he wasted no time in slipping his tongue inside to have a slow dance with mine. You know that movie about the girl who had never been kissed, this was that never been kissed kiss. This kiss was habit forming the thing of addictions and AA meetings. This kiss was everything.
With a final tug on my bottom lip, it ended and was left with a feeling in a state of undescribed bliss.
“Another talent, calming down crazy rambling women. You should see me in hostage negotiations.” He smirked showing one of his dimples. I was at a loss for words, dumfounded. The dumb had found me. I know that we just crossed some sort of line but I couldn’t translate that to my lips.
He leant in a kissed the corner of my mouth before making the other dimple appear in full on smile.
“Relax Bell, we’re still friends, nothing has changed. I just wanted to shut you up. I’ll call you later.” And with that he hopped in his car and drove away, leaving me still standing there probably catching flies with my mouth open, wondering what the hell just happened.
What the hell did he mean nothing has changed? Umm, hello, everything had just changed. At least to me.

This newest addition to the McCarthy’s series is awesome! I always love a visit to Gansett Island and this was no disappointment. This book focuses mainly on Owen & Laura and the upcoming trail for Owen’s father along with plans for their wedding. Even though they are the main focus, we get to visit with most all of the island’s characters in some way, some more than others. There is a big surprise in this story for the McCarthy family that I hope sets up more stories for us in the future. We also get two surprise weddings in addition to Owen & Laura’s. More weddings are planned and engagements occurring. Lots of love on the island in this book! Five stars for this story! Five stars for all of the McCarthy’s Series! Looking forward to more visits to the island in the future…hoping that some future stories began in this book!

When I first wrote Maid for Love back in 2010, I couldn’t imagine a time when I’d be talking about the eleventh book in the series that began with that first story, but here we are!
