I sat on Norfolk Beach needing to feel close to him on the anniversary of his death. It was a beautiful day in May and I was cutting class. I had done the same every year since he passed.

Jaxson Irons was only supposed to be in Pensacola for a year. But now three years later I still hadn’t heard from him. I saw a man running down the beach and I knew immediately who it was.

Jaxson didn’t respond the way I had dreamed he would. He told me we would catch up someday soon. I stood and watched until he was gone.
Thump, thump. I placed my hand on my chest as I felt my heart beat again for what felt like the first time in three years. Thump, thump. I felt the blood moving quickly through my body. Its heat once again present. Thump, thump. I looked up at the sky and let out a breath. A breath that I had been holding forever. Thump, thump.

I felt tears fall down my face as I raised my hands in the air and laughed out loud. Just then the clouds parted for the first time in forever. I saw the sun smiling down on me.

Thanks to the author, I was allowed to read an ARC of this book for an honest review. As a major fan of M.J. Fields, I was very excited to get my hands on this new series. Needless to say, I wasn’t disappointed. This is a great book and a great beginning to a new series.

The story of Jax and Frankie is such a sweet love story. Jax didn’t grow up with a loving family, but found that family love in his best friend’s family. When this best friend, Will, passed away, Jax removed himself from this family but never was able to get will’s sister Frankie out of his mind. Frankie has always loved Jax. After her brother’s death, she made sure Jax knew that but she let him walk away. After three years, fate put them back together. Their love story becomes a great read.

In addition to Jax and Frankie finally finding each other in the way that they both wanted, there is a suspenseful side to the story. Someone out there wants to keep these two apart. Because of this, Jax is forced to keep up false appearances and keep Frankie a secret. This situation makes for an already weak self esteem in Frankie become even worse. Trust is hard fought in this book. With the suspense element, the book ends in a major cliffhanger.

I really loved this book and this story. I loved that Jaxson Irons is such a loyal man and no matter what was thrown at him, once he faced his feelings for Frankie, he never wavered. Frankie’s struggles pulled at me and I found myself really pulling for her to get stronger and be able to handle what life threw at her. At the cliffhanger, all I could think was “when is part two getting here!” This is a must read! Five Stars to M.J. Fields for another great book!

I wipe my hands on my dress, staring at the numbers 806 on the gold metal plate. This is it, Audrey. You’ll walk in that door a girl and eventually come out a woman.

“I’m such a loser,” I mumble to myself, and twist the doorknob.

A man hops up from the love seat when I enter. He has dark hair and a defined, closely shaved jaw. He’s handsome, definitely not smelly or gross, and strangely familiar.

“Have we met before?” I blurt, trying to place him.

“Um… I don’t think so,” he says, flashing a heart-stopping smile. His eyes meet mine and they’re bluer than blue. Henry Cavill.

“Oh, I saw you going up the elevator last week.”

“Right. Of course, I remember that,” he says with an even brighter smile. Adorable dimples appear on his cheeks. He holds out his hand. “You were loitering in the lobby. I’m Graham.”

I remember why I’m here and my face burns, surely, turning bright red. I take his hand anyway and say, “Audrey.”

“Right.”

“Right,” I repeat feeling like an idiot.

“Would you like to sit down?” he asks.

“I guess so, thanks.” I take the same spot as the other day but this time I sit in the middle, hoping he doesn’t try to sit next to me. What am I doing here?

Graham sits across from me and says, “I know this is all new for you, but please don’t be uncomfortable. Dr. Markson has told me all about your situation and I just want to help. I think together we have a really good chance of defeating your anxiety.”

His speech is so sincere and he’s giving me the most empathetic smile. I want to die of humiliation. Covering my face with my hands, I groan. “Oh God, this is so embarrassing.”

“Why?”

“Because you know I’m a defective misfit; and you’re here to help me with something I never share with anyone. Like ever, yet you’re just talking about it like its normal.”

“It’s your normal,” he says.

“Yeah. Whatever.” I cross my arms over my chest and nervously look around the room, anywhere but at him. I notice a small black journal on the coffee table. “What’s that?”

“Those are our instructions and guidelines for the day.” He picks the book up, and says, “Want me to read them?”

My stomach burns from anxiety. I want run from the room and never look back. “I guess we may as well see what this is all about.”

“I want to go home with you.”

He looked away and shook his head in frustration.
