It’s been twelve years since Jenny Wilks lost her fiancé in the 9/11 attacks in New York City. Since then she’s been floundering, trying to find her way. Taking the job as lighthouse keeper on Gansett Island was the best thing she could’ve done for herself. On the island she’s found amazing friends and a wonderful new life. There’s only one thing missing and that’s romance. She’s recently asked her new friends to fix her up with some of the island’s more eligible men. While her friends are busy arranging dates for her, Alex Martinez comes to cut the grass at the lighthouse.
He’s given up everything to come home to Gansett to care for his ailing mother…
Alex has gone from cultivating orchids at the US Botanic Garden in Washington to cutting grass on Gansett, like he did as a teenager. Running the family business with his brother while managing their mother’s dementia requires Alex’s undivided attention until a sexy lighthouse keeper shows him there’s much more to life than work and endless obligation.
During a scorching summer heat wave on Gansett, Jenny and Alex take comfort in each other, and what begins as a hot summer fling quickly becomes something much more lasting. But will it hold up beyond the heat wave when real life intrudes on their sexy interlude?
Meant For Love is book #10 in The McCarthys of Gansett Island Series. This book may actually be my favorite of the ten books. Let me start by saying that I love each and every book in the series and all of the characters on the island. This book steps away from the McCarthy family as the main love story and focuses on two characters who are recent arrivals at the island (although one lived there previously). The story is of Jenny, who has finally decided to move on from the tragedy that has defined her, and Alex, who has decided he cannot offer anything to anyone in a relationship.
These two characters must try to find their way to each other despite outside factors that neither have control of. Even though Jenny has decided to move forward with her life, she still must deal with her grief of her loss as she enters a relationship with Alex. She is plagued by dreams of her last moments with her fiance’ and although Alex is comforting and supportive, she has to find her own way to deal with them. Alex has the intense situation of caring for his ailing mother. He continues to feel he has nothing to offer anyone even though Jenny tries to show him otherwise. The path they must take to find happiness with each other is not only emotionally charged, but is also one hot read. The two definitely have extreme chemistry.
In addition to following the story of Jenny and Alex, you will get to catch up with the other residents of Gansett Island. I love how Mrs. Force always includes each of the residents in the books so that you have an update on their stories also. You feel like you are coming home when you read about the island and all of its’ colorful characters. This is a five-star story and a must read for all Gansett Island fans. If you haven’t read the series, check out the first book, Maid For Love, today and visit Gansett. You will want to go back time and time again….ten times in fact! Great job Marie Force…keep the Island books coming!
