Awakening–An Emotional Erotica

ImageThanks to NetGalley, I was able to read Awakening by Elene Sallinger for an honest review.  This was listed as an erotica selection so I wasn’t quite expecting such an emotional story about two people with their own individual traumatic issues.  Needless to say, this unexpected aspect made this a great story and not just another erotica read.

The two main characters of Evan and Claire both had issues that made their attraction for each other seem like an impossible situation.  Evan had lost his wife, the love of his life and his sub, to cancer and he had never moved passed this.  Claire had her own set of multiple issues that had a tremendous impact on her personality making her doubt herself in most areas of her life.  In finding erotica books, Claire realizes that she may have tendencies that have never been explored.  As much as Evan wants to help Claire, he feels that he cannot move on because he still loves his wife.

This story of these two emotionally needy characters brings this erotica read to a whole other level.  It was interesting to read as one character is wanting to explore the erotica realm while the other character has the experience but is scared to go back to it.  The emotional issues in this book had much more of a reading impact to me than the erotica.  The erotica side was just an interesting piece to the entire puzzle.

If you are interested in an erotica book that has a great story that goes with it, then Awakening is for you.  The author does a great job of delving into the psyche of both characters.  I thoroughly enjoyed this story and would recommend it with five stars.
